This is a pattern created from a photograph. The photograph is of a quilt, the top of which was created by Sarah Victoria Cannon, my great, great-grandmother, during the Civil War. She lived in Newberry, South Carolina. In the 1980s, my mother, Martha Jenkins Matthews Kaufmann, commissioned a group of quilters to attach the quilt top to a backing and to hand quilt it. Her sister, Lily Matthews Bonturi, was a very talented and well-known quilter. My contribution is to repeat the design and to have it printed. I’m creating table and bed linens as gifts for the descendants of Sarah Victoria Cannon, who are my siblings and cousins.

Pattern created 2017. Photo by artist. Painting in background by artist.

Here, several original patterns are shown on the bed. Propped against the headboard and hanging above the bed are two painting/photo hybrids, printed on canvas. The top is a unique print. The bottom image, untitled, is #2/2. Both images created 2013 and printed 2014.
